Toronto-Si David Goyer, the filmmaker whose credits include the Blade Trilogy, The Dark Knight, and Apple TV Foundation series, said Friday that he is building a new university based on blockchain-fiction called the emergence.
The world of emergence, according to Goyer, features spaceships, relic-hunting and white-holes-staples of science-fiction that will serve as a foundation for a dazzling transmedia project built inside the INSENT, new Goyer Blockchain platform.
In a panel discussion at CoinDesk’s agreed conference in Toronto, Goyer appeared next to Sy Lee’s story protocol, Blockchain dedicated to intellectual property where entry and emergence were based. There, Goyer laid his vision for admission, saying that the platform would allow fans to create the emergence of the universe along with professional historians.
“The idea is that we will involve the community in all of this, and they will have a chance to create characters that will join the podcast, participating in animation, etc.,” he said.
Goyer criticized the Hollywood approach to IP formation, calling it “very top” and slow to adapt. “Franchises are built on industry models and television industries (ON) for a century,” he said. “It is very difficult to change. It is very difficult to break in Hollywood if you are a newcomer.” Web3, he added, can help change that.
The story protocol, launched in 2023, raised more than $ 80 million from supporters including A16Z, Hashed, and Endeavor. The platform offers tools for registering, monitoring and monetting intellectual blockchain ownership.
“Every intellectual property has its own program, licensing rights and royalty shares,” Lee explained Friday. “Without the Middleman, one person could be a license, license, and really to build on someone else’s IP,” he added. “According to the policies set by the IP -owned (…) they can share upside down.”
Goyer said he wrote a 2,500-page Bible story to claim the emerged universe. “We have hired a group of truly talented concept artists who have worked with Harry Potter and Star Wars franchises, and a number of Hugo and Nebula Award-winning Science Fiction authors to write stories within the universe using the Bible I created,” he said.
That material also served as training data for an AI agent, called “Atlas,” which the Goyer said to help contributions co-create within a predetermined narrative outline.
“This is what I’m going to say is kind of a penalty for using AI, where we just don’t scrap information,” he said.
Visitors to the occurrence platform can read about its characters and settings or come up with themselves. The community can upvote stories and visuals generated by the user. An editorial board – headed by Goyer – will determine which submissions will be part of the official canon.
“We will let our community be a bottle of characters created by the community itself,” he said. “Then the editorial board – which is myself and some other people – will decide which of these characters best suits the general franchise.”
“Ai, Web3, blockchain – none of these things are leaving, right? The whole world becomes tokenized,” Goyer said. “So, for me, I just thought it was something I needed to know and get involved with.”
While AI and Blockchain have increased the fear of unemployment and the commodification of creative labor, the Goyer said his hope was the use of technology in ways that empower artists.
“It’s really about deciding if I’m going to hold my head in the sand, or I’ll have a seat on the table and look, in my own little way, whether or not I can help guide it in a way that benefits the creative kinds like myself,” he said.
