Cointelegraph hit by front-end exploitation, fake phishing airdrop pop up on website
The Crypto Media Outlet Cointelegraph confirmed that its website was compromised by a front-end exploitation on Sunday, along with attacks that injection a malicious pop-up false claims to offer “Cointelegraph ICO Airdrops” and “CTG tokens.”
The fake banner urged readers to connect their crypto wallets in exchange for a nearly $ 5,500 worth of tokens, citing a “fair launch” event and a bogus certik audit to lend a scam legitimacy.
“Don’t click on these pop-ups, connect your purse, or enter any personal information,” Cointelegraph warned in an X post, added that it was “actively working on an arrangement.”
Victims are usually —ticks connecting purses for token claims, identity verification, or honesty rewards -only to prevent their funds.
Tactics reflect the almost identical exploitation of Coinmarketcap two days beforewhere the attacks are embedded a similar code to deliver wallet phishing signs.
In both cases, the attack relies on the reliance of trusted platforms to miss the user’s skepticism -the news and data sites to intolerance vectors for purse canals.
