Abu Dhabi forbids crypto mining on the farms, citing energy use

Abu Dhabi’s Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) re -confirmed A ban on cryptocurrency mining on emirate farms, which warns that violators face tough penalties and connectivity from government services.

The step follows the recent discovery of repurosing land and electricity farms for mining digital assets, uses that are not permitted under existing agricultural regulations.

According to the ADAFSA, such activities are fighting the intended field function, which is limited to the cultivation of crops and raising animals.

Farms caught by mining will be given a fine of 100,000 Dirham (about $ 27,000), with a penalty doubled in repeated offenses. Beyond the fine, ADAFSA will cut off electricity, confiscate equipment, and stop accessing agricultural support programs.

Offenders, both owners and tenants, can also refer to other authorities for further action, Adafsa said.

Energy demand from cryptocurrency mining motivates other restrictions worldwide. Late last year, Russia imposed a six -year prohibition in 10 energy consumption regions.
