Azuki Announces Native ANIME Token, Related NFTs Up 9.1%

The non-fungible token (NFT) project Azuki has announced the release of ANIME, a Japanese cartoon-themed token described in website as a “coin of culture.”

The price of Azuki NFTs rose 9.1% following the announcement, with the cheapest NFT selling for 13.77 ETH ($42,000), according to CoinGecko.

“We’ve acquired Anime.​com, soon to launch with Animecoin as the home for global anime fandom,” Azuki wrote on X. “And now, with the Animecoin Foundation, we’re building the next arc for in anime … Our mission remains the same: to build an open anime universe.”

The token will be distributed with a strong focus on the community, with 50.5% of the total supply allocated to the community, 37.5% of which will be fully unlocked at launch while an additional 13% “will be managed by ANIME holders in the future . AnimeDAO to fund community incentives and initiatives.”

The company’s team and advisors will receive 15.6% of the supply tied to a three-year vesting schedule.

The move to issue a native token follows Pudgy Penguins, which issued PENGU in December which now has a market cap of $1.87 billion.
