Blockchain ‘baddies’ on how to bring more women to crypto

In an industry full of complexity, jargon and uncertainty, web3 women say the way to attract more women in the crypto space begins with clarity, education and community.

In the blockchain Baddies Side Event during the token2049 in Dubai, women shared personal experiences of entering the web3 world and why they believe that more women’s participation is important for the future of crypto.

In cointelegraph interviews, community members said the path begins with the alleviation of technical concepts and the care of environments where women can learn and grow.

From providing clarity to developing skills

From aligning technical language to creating safe spaces for learning, WEB3 women say that demyifying crypto and making it easier to understand tools can unlock more opportunities for women to enter the web3 industry.

Caroline York, Marketing Director of Web3 firm Serotonin, said making space that welcome women is starting to clarify. “To attract more women, we need to make the information more soluble and clearer,” she said.

York told cointelegraph that women tend to feel safer in high confidence and intimate environment, along with friends and peers as their source of information. “Women are learning from other women,” York added, pointing to community -driven initiatives such as Shefi. York said these programs play a role in expanding women’s participation.

Saima Tariq Khan, an engineer, mentor and member of the crypto community, boasts a sentiment in York. Khan told Cointelegraph that demonifying that scary crypto vocabulary was the way to go. “What is the defi? What do I mean by cryptocurrency? What is blockchain? First, we have to build the first level of understanding,” he said.

Khan also said that while many women graduated from computer science courses, they were not indicated to workers. Community members said the remote-friendly web3 nature offers an opportunity to engage in an non-talent pool.

Financial literacy should be the starting point

Paloma Soria Brown, a May -Set and a Scholar of Shefi, said education is the key. However, Brown said financial reading should be a starting point.

“People don’t know what the web3 means,” Brown told cointelegraph. “When you know about crypto but you’re not an investor, you can only see scams and rug pulls.”

Brown said that increasing financial and building education education is important to attract women and more people to space. He said that if more people understood the concepts of web3 ownership, freedom and community, they would be attracted to its potential.

Meanwhile, Abigail Xavier, Marketing Manager on the Web3 Financial Platform Fasset, told Cointelegraph that companies play a role in making more accessible to women. Xavier said their team is actively looking for inputs from women-dedicated communities to improve their products.

“We work with many communities with women to understand their experience and include that feedback in our UI and UX,” Xavier said. “We want to make our platform and tool easier for our female audience.”
