Meta’s AI boss said that AI is currently lacking in ‘intelligent behavior’ – report

The current models of artificial intelligence lack the key characteristics of human intelligence, the AI head of the meta has been reported to be said, claiming that the company’s latest model will solve this issue.
Business Insider reported on May 26 at the AI Action Summit in Paris earlier this year, chief Chief AI scientist Yann Lecun said that “there are four important qualities of smart behavior that every animal, or relatively smart, and certain people can do.”
“Understanding the physical world, having continued memory, the ability to reason and plan complex actions, especially hierarchically planning,” Lecun said.
He said the current large language models (Llms) The power of famous AI chatbots has not hits this threshold, and “incorporating these capabilities will require a move to how they are trained.”
Some of the biggest AI and Tech giant giants are “Cobbling capabilities” in existing models in their race to dominate the AI game, Lecun said.
Meta has been experimenting with a system called Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), which is a way of enhancing LLM outputs using external sources of knowledge.
In February, it released V-Jepa, a non-generative model learning by predicting lost or masked parts of a video.

Lecun believes the “world-based models” will be a better approach as they are trained in real-life scenarios and possess a higher understanding than the current AI-based pattern.
The concept involves models that may think of taking an action and predicts the resulting state of the world. Because the world is endless with unpredictable possibilities, Lecun believes that training should occur through abstraction, reflecting how people understand the physical world.
Meta’s Ai Brain Drain
Meanwhile, Meta experiences significant loss of talent from the AI research team, especially researchers who created the original Llama model in 2023, insider reported on May 26th.
Only three of the original 14 Llama authors remain in the meta, and many joined Mistral, a Paris-based startup founded by former META researchers and key llama architects.
Meta’s latest release, Llama 4received a warm reception from Claude 4 Sonnet From the anthropic, the report was added.
On May 15, the Wall Street Journal reported That meta delayed the flagship of its flagship, Llama 4 “Behemoth.”
