Ex-Celsius CEO asks to travel for a wedding after judgment


Former Celius CEO Alex Mashinsky is probably allowed to travel for his daughter’s wedding regardless of the consequence of her May 8 hearing.

During a May 8th in the US District court for the Southern District of New York, Judge John Koeltl approved an application for Mashinsky to travel from New York to Memphis, Tennessee, between May 26 and May 29 for his daughter’s wedding. Approval was available at the public docket on May 8, but appeared to be removed at the time of publication.

Judge Koeltl will determine at a hearing of May 8 if Mashinsky is serving prison time following a request to the prosecutors.

Former Celsius CEO appeared ready to go to the trial in 2024 to his lawyers lost a motion to eliminate his charges. In December, he sought a crime in fraud on goods and a deceptive procedure to manipulate the price of the native platform token, Cel.

The prosecutors asked the judge to impose a 20-year sentence to the former Celius CEO, while Mashinsky’s lawyers asked him to serve a year and a day in prison. The hearing could be a bell for how criminal cases involving cryptocurrency could change under the Trump administration, which assigned a temporary US attorney for the court district.

On April 17, Mashinsky’s lawyers submitted a letter From his oldest daughter in support of his father in advance of the censorship. The letter says Mashinsky does not deserve a “severe penalty,” writing “he does not set to steal from anyone.” Other members of his family write similar letters.

The same court district is in charge of the fetch of FTX CEO Sam “SBF” Bankman-Fried, who currently delivers 25 years to prison.
