Hypersphere’s partner has lost life -consuming in the zoom scam


Mehdi Farooq, a Crypto Venture Venture Capital Firm Hypersphere’s investment partner, announced on Thursday that he lost a significant part of his life -consuming life in a targeted phishing attack that was being -destra through a fake Zoom call.

In a Post In X, Farooq explained that the attack began with a telegram message from Alex Lin, someone he knew. “He wants to meet,” Farooq recounts.

The two had previously contacted, making the outreach work. Farooq then shared his calendly link with Lin, who scheduled a meeting for the next day.

Minutes before the scheduled call, Lin asked to move to the business business “for compliance factors,” added that one of his LPS, Kent, another familiar name, will be joined. Since Farooq manages the deals in Treasury, the request does not raise suspicion.

Farooq said he joined a scheduled Zoom call to find out that there was no audio, even though both participants appeared on the screen. In chat, they ordered him to update the zoom to fix the issue. Shortly after updating, his system was compromised.

“Six purses are drained (my fault in not maintaining things that are more bare -up). My laptop is compromised thoroughly,” he wrote.

Farooq added that during the attack, the impersonator continued to chat on the telegram as if nothing was wrong. “He was still joking: ‘Let’s go to SG.'” Hackers eventually dried up the “years of thrift … in a few minutes.”

He later discovered that Alex Lin’s real account was that -Hijack. According to Farooq, the attack was linked to a North Korea-related actor known as “dangrouspassword.”

Earlier this year, Farooq Join Hypersphere as an investment partner, focusing on fluid and adventure opportunities. He used to spend almost three years on the Animoca brands.
