Major exchange Crypto.com has received in-principle MiCA approval from Malta
Cryptocurrency exchange Crypto.com has received in-principle approval for an EU Markets in Cryptoassets License (MiCA) from the Malta Financial Services Authority, bringing it one step closer to being able to operate fully across the trading bloc.
A Crypto.com spokesperson said on Friday that the initial license means the exchange is expected to obtain a full CASP license soon.
Firms have been working to obtain a Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP) license under MiCA since the passage of legislation dedicated to cryptocurrencies in 2023. The CASP license allows firms to serve clients across the 27-country European trading bloc.
“Receiving full regulatory approval will allow Crypto.com to offer its market-leading range of cryptocurrency services across the EU within a simplified and robust framework providing a significantly improved degree of transparency to the sector,” the company said in an emailed statement.
Crypto.com will soon join the likes of Borse Stuttgart Digital, com.MoonPayBitStaete, ZBD and the main brokerage and clearing company The hidden pathwhich has obtained a MiCA license.
