Moving Celo to the Layer-2 network is over, bringing a new season for the blockchain

Celo Blockchain’s long -awaited plan to become an Ethereum Layer-2 chain was completed, ending for nearly two -year process, major organizations behind the network said Wednesday.
The move ends A long journey Beginning Back in July 2023 For Layer-1 blockchain that included a community vote in July 2024 and a fierce competition, won optimismOn the Layer-2 networks to convince Celo’s ecosystem to build with their technology.
The improved network – like the other 2s layers – offers faster and cheaper transactions at the top of Ethereum mainnet. Blockchain is activated by the OP stack of optimism, A customizable plot That allows developers to develop layer-2 networks based on optimism technology.
“You know, every time people ask us, we always recommend the OP stack, because the team there has become useful and supportive,” said Marek Olszewski, the CEO in Clabs, the main developer firm who supports the Celo Blockchain.
A blueprint for other layers 1s
According to Rene Reisberg, the CEO of the Celo Foundation, the move is the first of its kind to the Ethereum ecosystem, and will probably be used as a blueprint for other EVM-compatible blockchains looking to become a network-2 network.
“This path of not only spinning a new chain, but really keeping that history, and having everything in the new chain, while more work, is great from a Celo perspective. It becomes this kind of great study in the case for Ethereum,” Rene Reinsberg, the President at the Celo Foundation, said in an interview.
“Even based on the outreach I got from other L1 founders like, ‘Hey, so how does it really feel inside going through this move, and how much work, and how do you think of it?’ And so it feels like there is an increase in interest today, ”Reinsberg added.
In spite of Ethereum’s leaders Experiencing a backlash from the community because of Clunky experience of operating between the plethora of layer-2 blockchains, the essential price of ether (Eth) KaMag -child in other cryptocurrencies and the blockchain Lost Mindshare and New Talent In competitors like Solana, Reinsberg said the other 1 layers similar to Celo were watching the move and also considered moving to the Ecosystem of Layer-2.
“As some of the short-term hurricanes go down and the emotions are starting to shift, I think you’ll start seeing a series of layers 1 that will probably be more public about it,” Reisberg said. “But we are definitely seeing the early conversations that are happening.”
Celo’s new home
According to the team, Celo End users will not notice a lot of differences in their prefits, and will still access key features such SocialConnect. However, there are changes in the protocol level.
“Validator’s responsibilities have emerged from running a consensus protocol to temporarily operate community RPC nodes, with validator rewards now distributed by implementing a wise contract instead of time blocks,” the team said in a press release. “In addition, the adherence of the transaction -previously referred to by validators that operate the consensus protocol -initially will be held by a centralized sequel, with a roadmap in the area for moving to decentralized future in the future.”
