Performance through the money supply lens

Gold is one of the strongest acts of possessions in 2025, rising 38% years to date, exceeding Bitcoin23% advance. However, it’s no secret, that bitcoin has done better than gold (and almost everything else) Over its short lifetime.
A check of two popular properties resistant to inflation against a wide metric of US currency supply (Known as m2) Provides an additional view of their performances.
Suitable for M2, gold-gold growth-despite its recently strong running-stayed below the peak of 2011 and almost the same level as in 1975. The whole time high for gold against the M2 took place in 1980.
Bitcoin tells a different story. Each bull cycle saw a BTC that hit a record compared to the M2, including last month when Bitcoin touched the same all the time high as well as a new high relative to the money supply.

This contrast can be highlighting the different duties of the two ownership. Gold continues to serve as a long fence and a stabilizer in portfolios, while Bitcoin behavior shows how new forms of money can respond differently during a period of rapid financial expansion.
