Moving marks Tether’s first foray to create a stablecoin for US administration, which aims to compete with the US -based providers such as Circle (CRCL)Paxos and ripple. Stablecoins, or cryptocurrencies tied to Fiat Money such as the US dollar, are especially popular as an alternative payment and are expected to potentially grow in a trillion-dollar market in the coming years from the current $ 270 billion. It is particularly popular in emerging markets, where high banking and inflation fees drive people to digital dollars. However, it faces questions from regulators and policy manufacturers on administration and transparency.
The new USAT token has been framing as a product for US businesses and institutions, supported by disclosed reserves and meets the requirements of US standards.
“By developing USAT with compliance, transparency and changing its core, we make sure the dollar remains the foundation of confidence in the digital asset space,” Hines said in a statement.
Talking to the media, Ardoino and Hines said that Anchorage and Cantor will be shareholders in the newly established US entity and share revenue from USAT token reserves, even though the details have not been finalized.
