Matter labs, the developer firm behind the Layer-2-2 network Zksync, were released at this permissionless conference this new cryptographic proverb “Airbender” on Tuesday.
A proverb is a key ingredient for layer-2s, as it generates zero-knowledge proof that is then posted on the base layer blockchain (in this case Ethereum)-an important process of linking the two chains and ensuring its security.
The Zksync team says Airbender is the fastest in its type, delivering the Ethereum block proof in 35 seconds with a single GPU, which exceeds the benchmarks of its competitors.
Having a fast pace can save the transaction fees: “We entered a part of a cental territory that is critical for major cases of use, including micropayments, high-frequency trading, and decentralized social,” said Alex Gluchowski, the co-founder of Matter Labs, in an interview with Coindesk. “The faster proofs will open a faster end, cheaper apps, and initially, proof that can be formed anywhere, not just in the massive GPU farms.”
The new proverb, which is an open-sourced zero-knowledge Virtual Machine (ZKVM), is based on RISC-V, a newer programming framework that Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Blerin has proposed to replace the current EVM, because This will make the blockchain better.
“We started developing Zksync Airbender a year ago because we saw where Ethereum had to go, and what ZK apps were asking for,” Gluchowski said. “Vitalik’s recent post is a great verification of our plans, but this path has moved for a while.”
While Airbender is still early in its control, Matter Labs released an app that allows developers to try the new proverb. If everything is in accordance with the plan and the ZKSYNC management process is approved, the Airbender will be included in a protocol upgrading later this Tag -High, according to Gluchowski.
“Zksync Airbender proves Ethereum blocks in 35 seconds with a single GPU. That’s the start of something breaking the ground: home-proving, real-time cross-chain UX, and ZK apps that can be proven on the fly. This is the foundation for an Internet of the verifiable, relevant chain,” Gluchowksi said.
