Bitdeer bought a 101 MW gas power plant in Alberta, Canada for Bitcoin mining

The Bitcoin (BTC) mining company has now announced that it has acquired a 101-MW gas-fired power plant near Fox Creek, Alberta, to produce a “upright integrated” BTC mining operation.
“We are really excited about planting roots in Alberta, our first site in Canada. This acquisition is the end of the extensive cooperation with many government agencies and the Canadian blockchain consortium,” Haris Basit, Chief Strategy Officer to Bitdeer, said to a Press release. “It marks a significant step in our approach to be the first fully integrated integrated bitcoin miner, which gives us not equivalent control over costs, energy efficiency, and scalability.”
Bitdeer said they plan to build a 99 MW DataCenter on the site. The site has a capacity to measure at 1 gw. Energy labor costs for the facility are between $ 20 to $ 25 per MW/h.
The plant was also licensed for a 99 MW interconnect at the local electricity grid, and the Bitdeer said it plans to sell power back to the Alberta Grid to stabilize prices in times of high demand.
“By integrating our own generation of electricity, sealminer mining machines and opportunist grid participation, we believe this site will set a new benchmark for the economy of the industry unit,” Basit added .
The Bitdeer said it plans to start the site preparation and the initial development of the infrastructure in Q2 2025 and it works fully at Q4 2026.
